In the age of Columbine and Homeland Security, Defiant Theatre presented a challenging new vision of Burgess’s dystopian classic with decadent hoodlums, gruesome murder, ultra ultra-violence and the “old in-out-in-out.” It was a tale of evil and good, of corruption and redemption, of authority and rebellion, of free will and coercion, and of milk and Beethoven. A Clockwork Orange marked the triumphant end of Defiant Theatre’s 11-year history in Chicago.
